If you’re like most women, you’ve got a closet brimming with nothing but shorts. And while it’s true that they cover most of the leg and aren’t too see-through, there are a few things you need to know about proper wearing technique in order to keep yourself looking chic.
First things first: wear them on the right time of year! What is this? Why does it matter? In short, it’s all about your skin tone versus your clothing color. In the wintertime when skin tones tend to be cooler or darker in hue, think deep navy or black instead of brighter colors that may clash with your complexion. The same goes for spring and summer, when lighter or warmer skin tones are in play. In the fall and spring, you’re safe to don your favorite colors.
What about length? Shorts with a high waist are a definite no-no unless you want your tummy on display. Luckily, some styles have come down low enough to show off the waistline underneath any top you wear! Longer hemlines can also be worn as capris with an opaque stocking underneath. If you do choose a pair that’s too long for your body type, try them on with heels instead of flats–it’ll shorten them instantly so they won’t swamp out your frame.
Choose your color wisely, but be sure to pair a darker hue with an equally sophisticated color on your top and bottom. A bright floral dress with black tights is a definite faux pas, especially if you’re sporting a tan or light skin tone! You may also want to take into consideration your body type when making your decision on what colors to wear. If you have larger thighs, opt for shorter shorts, as they won’t fall down below the knee.
The great thing about shorts is that they work just as well in spring and summer as they do in winter! If you’re going somewhere warm, go ahead and throw on your favorite pair of shorts.
